After enjoying a fabulous Halloween weekend, it is important to buckle down because believe it or not, school is almost over! Three weeks are left to finish up projects, take last tests and end school on a high note.
Last week I took my last test in Marketing 202 and ISE 432 before the final. While I’m relieved to have those out of the way I still have a ton of work to do. I still have a paper for marketing due and a group project in ISE. Both of these are very important since it is 15% of my grade in class. Even though I do not have a major project due in calculus, the final will be here before I know it and I want to be thoroughly prepared for it.
Physics is probably my hardest subject this quarter. We are given individual and group quizzes every week along with homework that sometimes can be pretty tough. I am going to start looking over equations now, so I will not be overwhelmed when it comes to test day. Overall, it is going to be a very busy three weeks for me. Hopefully everything goes well, wish me luck!

In late August, I began working as a laboratory assistant in Konneker Research Lab which is located in The Ridges. I have done many interesting things such as counting cells and determining genotypes of mice and some not so fun things like rearrange all the mice in the laboratory.
Yesterday, I began my new project. My job is to grow a tissue culture of E-6 cells (these are mice fibroblast cells). After I grow the cells, I am able to use a growth hormone drug in order to see the effects it has on the cells. I am really excited about this project because it allows me to apply the knowledge I have gained. At the same time, I am very nervous for my results. Hopefully everything goes well and I’ll keep everyone updated on how it goes!

So unfortunately, out of all the weeks, I decided to catch a cold on midterm week. It started off with a few sniffles here and there, to a sore throat, and eventually turned into the kind of nasty cough that disrupts the classroom. Since H1N1 is still a major issue across the nation, just for precaution, I decided to go to Hudson Health Center today.
When I arrived at Hudson, I realized that I was not the only one that was feeling under the weather. The waiting room was filled with sniffling, coughing, sneezing victims like me. After about an hour wait I was able to see a doctor and was prescribed medicine to help me knock out this cold. Luckily, I did not have swine flu but it is better to be safe than sorry. After a few days of taking the medicine, I already feel a ton better. Now I’m ready to take my midterms without the disruption of my cough.

Yesterday, I attended my very first Pilates class. Pilates is based on the idea of working your core muscles and inhaling and exhaling at a constant pace. Throughout the class we did many moves that focused on working your abs, strengthening back muscles, and toning your legs. I was very surprised how sore my muscles are today! Even though it is not an aerobic exercise such as running, you still achieve the same effects. I really did enjoy the class and I am excited to attend another one next week! |
